When you need urgent dental help

A dental emergency is anything causing significant pain, bleeding, or damage that needs urgent care. If you're unsure whether you need an emergency dentist, here are some common examples where booking an urgent dental appointment is best:

  • Dental abscess
  • Toothache
  • Broken or chipped tooth
  • Lost filling or crown
  • Dental trauma

How much does emergency dental treatment cost?

The cost of emergency treatment depends entirely on what treatment you need and how complex your dental emergency is.

We'll always talk you through what's needed and give you a clear price before we start. Our membership plan members also benefit from discounts on emergency care, plus worldwide dental injury cover through the Global Dental Scheme.

Getting urgent care at our practice

Give us a call

For the best chance of a same-day appointment, give us a call straight away. We'll ask some questions and arrange the earliest possible appointment. If you’re experiencing a dental emergency out-of-hours, call NHS 111 for guidance.

Your emergency appointment

Once you arrive, your dentist will assess the problem and take X-rays if necessary. From there, we'll carry out whatever urgent treatment is needed to stabilise your emergency and get you comfortable again.

Follow-up care

While we can resolve some emergencies in one visit, others need follow-up appointments to complete the treatment. We’ll explain what happens next and schedule any follow-up appointments before you leave the practice.

Recognising when to call us

You need urgent care if you have:

  • Severe tooth pain
  • Bleeding that won't stop
  • Facial swelling
  • A tooth that's been knocked out or badly damaged

Even when the pain feels manageable, infections and abscesses can worsen quickly and spread if left untreated, so it's always best to call us straight away when in doubt.

Regular check-ups go a long way toward preventing emergencies like these — seeing your dentist every six months gives us the chance to catch problems before they turn into something painful.
